The Institute for Islamic Education (IIE) was founded in 1994 by the Muslim Community Centre, Abuja which is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation. It was originally established as the community education programmes unit of the Centre, it was later changed into an Institute in 2008.

From a humble beginning, the IIE is now becoming quite popular, with nearly 300 students, fourteen teaching staff and 2 administrative staff. It is among the most popular institutions offering such programmes in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The all-inclusive nature of studies attracts many students, who often look for additional values beyond the study of academic subjects, like understanding the true call of Islam, its ideals and principles.

The Institute has recorded many achievements since its inception, graduating more than a thousand students over the years. Some of whom went ahead to acquire formal certificates and are now graduates of universities. Indeed, a few have even returned to work in the Institute as teachers, while others engage in different services elsewhere, including a group that formally engages in Da’awah work in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and its environs.

The Institute is headed by a Principal and a team of well-qualified teaching staff. At the moment, the Institute has three sections, which are:

  1. CHILDREN ISLAMIC EDUCATION SECTION

  2. This Section teaches the fundamentals of Islam at the basic level, mostly to children. It includes an introduction to the Glorious Qu’ran and its authentic recitation, as well as the basic of worship and belief. It runs from 4.00pm to 6.00pm, five days a week, Saturdays to Wednesdays.

  3. ADULT FEMALE SECTION

  4. The Adult female section comprises basic, intermediate and advanced studies in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Most of the students who attend this programme are married women who wish to acquire knowledge in Islamic Sciences. The classes hold during the weekends, on Saturdays and Sundays, between 9.00am-12;50pm.

  5. ADULT MALE SECTION

  6. Like the adult female section described above, the Adult Male Section comprises basic, intermediate and advanced studies in Arabic and Islamic Studies. Most of the students are adult male who attend the programme in order to acquire knowledge in Islam for their own self development or in preparation for more formal studies in the Islamic Sciences . Classes begin immediately after the Maghrib prayer and continue after the Isha’i prayer, closing at 9 pm.
